Boot on the back of transfer case
Boot on the back of transfer case
The boot on the back of my transfer case is dry rotted and cracked. Its not leaking right now, but I can't imagine it'll be long before it is.
Can anyone tell me how to go about pulling the boot and replacing it?

The boot/seal will probably come off in two pieces.
Block front wheels and set the parking brake.
Pull rear drive shaft.
Use a dull chisel or flat blade screw driver and tap the seal off by tapping the edge of the seal where it meets the t-case. Try to keep the blade of whatever you are using off of the t-case to avoid any damage.
Once you get it started, it will come off pretty easy.
The new one will go on as one piece.
Center it on the hole and with a hammer, LIGHTLY tap around the outer edge of the seal working it into the end of the case.
Lightly lube the inside of the seal in BOTH areas that will contact the drive shaft yolk and re-install the driveshaft.

That is just a dust seal. It doesn't keep the ATF from coming out, there's a seal in front of it that does that. Mine was craked too for who knows how long and and I never had any trouble.
