Replacement U Joints

I am nearing 100k on my rig. Towing season is fast approaching, and I am starting to think about replaceint my u joints. As far as I know mine are OK (will have them checked at next oil change) But if they are nearing the end of there life time, I may want to replace them with heavy duty greaseable units.

Can you folks give me some suggestions on some good joints ? My fiver weighs in at about 14k wet...

These are for the 6spd

Rear driveshaft 2 Piece precision (takes 3) Precision #351
Front driveshaft Cardan H joint (takes 2) Precision #232
Front driveshaft @ front axle (takes 1) Precision #235
Front Axle U joints LEFT AND RIGHT (takes 2) #464

The auto trans takes the Precision #295 in the rear shaft, as far as I know the rest would be the same. All of the above are greaseable and are available from www.rockauto.com cheap.

The sealed versions are actually stronger since they don't have the grease passages drilled into them. Whether or not they last longer I don't know.

I have about 75k miles on my 2500 and are replacing all u joints one by one with greasable ones. Already did the left front and rear drive shaft. If you're NOT a hard core off roader then a greasable u joint is the way to go 'cause the will last a long time!

I don't believe that. A piece of pipe is usually stronger than a solid rod. It doesn't matter how strong the joint is if the needle bearings are gone due to lack of grease(like mine were at 25k miles in the rear). The front axle joints just died this week with only 35k on them, new ones are on their way. So far the only originals are in the front shaft.

I checked the rockauto website and it does not list the 351 as a U joint for our trucks. Do they fit perfectly, because I will have a driveshaft shop press them in for me and they are not going to fiddle around with filing/shaving the joint. Either it fits or it dosent.

Thanks

JohnnyH,
Some grinding of the outer rim of the cap maybe necessary. It amounts to basically grinding the top outer rim off and smoothing..
I have later compared the 351 to an oem DCX joint and they were the same size.

I have used the 351's after grinding without issue. You can literally feel the difference!

Thanks, Is there a greasable Spicer that will fit right out of the box. I know if they dont fit I'm going to have to hear that I got the wrong joints for the truck. I'm not even sure if they will grind if it comes to that. I would do the install myself but the drivshaft shop will install all 3 for under 40.00. I'd rather not deal with it for that.

Definitely get the shop to do the install. Its well worth the money to be done right!
