Don't be scared!!! this reminds me of the time I broke the tap off in my 04 like a week after i bought it....i ended up modifing some nn pliers to grab the flute on the tap while i delicatly blasted it out with a plasma torch...I was able to still thread the manifold!!!! that was about 120kmi ago and the truck still builds full boost and 35psi with the boostfooler

I used the grease method as well and small to large drill bits and it went well. (pics in my gallery).
I was nervous drilling into the brand new truck as well so I know how you feel.
I tried to lower the turbo to insert something to block stuff from falling into it but there was 1 bolt I couldn't get a socket on or enough leverage with my wrench so I went to the grease method.
Just remember not to drill into the center on the manifold, off to the rear is the most accepted spot:
