Reflash
Reflash
Well, I had my reflash done as per DC and now everything seems off kilter.<br><br>The high speed idle no longer comes on and during idle the truck just kinda seems to get surges of fuel, like rooooom, rooooom, rooooom.<br><br>Turbo is not kicking in correctly either and feels sluggish.<br><br>Only thing not happening is a decrease in mileage, still getting 20 highway.<br><br>Dealer says when they do these reflashes it affects the computer and lots of strange things can happen.<br><br>Bottom line is they want it back Thursday and will put their best diesel guy on it. <br><br>This is after doing the reflash exactly as DC told them to.<br><br>Anyone else notice anything different after reflash?<br><br>Hunter
Re:Reflash
I will be interested in watching this thread, as my truck was not on the recall list and has had no "recall" symptoms. I have seen a few guys on here get the reflash without being on the recall list, and they indicated a slight mileage improvment. I would have it done at my expense if it improves mileage, but I hate to mess with something that is performing well already. I put my first 200 miles of break-in on the truck this weekend with the empty 5er (7940 lbs empty), and EGT's never went beyond 800 (pre-turbo), the boost maxed at about 28 lbs, and the truck was really smooth - that's why I'm hestitant to change anything... I'll watch responses to get a better feel for whether this is advisable or not. Thanks for starting this thread Hunter.
Re:Reflash
I have the same feelings. I did receive the recall notice. I live in a rather remote city and I am happy with the mechanical repairs, but when it comes to computer related things I find some shops don’t know more than just following the menus. Also I figure, don’t fix something that isn’t broke.
Re:Reflash
I had the reacall performed on mine with no ill effects what so ever. I don't know about the fast idle though. It has not been cold enough for it to kick in since having the recall done.

I've only seen 25 :'(<br>
<br><br>That was only under acceleration in fourth gear getting up on the highway; rev to 2500 in third, then shift to fourth and give full foot pedal after letting the clutch out. That only occured with the 5er on - it won't do that when empty.

Re:Reflash
I've had the reflash done on mine with no change in performance, the way it runs, but possibly lost one or two miles to the gallon. But I only have 1300 miles and it has sat for the last month and a half. Drove it tonight on the interstate and it looks like highway miles are down.
Re:Reflash
Don,
My recall re-flash was done about 4/10. There has been no observable change in performance. ???
Since then I have towed 1300 miles to Kearns, UT and back. (Towed utility trailer loaded with diesel 4x4 tractor, loader and blade, GVW 5600#.) She pulled those mountain grades on I-80 without a whimper. 14.5 mpg round trip traveling at 65 mph.

I've had mine @3000 RPM with trailer in tow on STEEP hill (17,080 lbs total weight)....still only 25 psi
I haven't pushed past 2800 rpm yet; still not enough break-in at 3300 miles for that. As far as the boost, I max out at 24 when empty, and 27-28 towing - maybe I just got lucky with a system that when put together works a little better than expected...just happens sometimes. I haven't done anything to it other than the Line-x, nerf bars, and guages, so it is bone stock performance-wise.
P.S. - it doesn't stay at that boost level, just hits it momentarily then drops 2 or 3 lbs for sustained.

Re:Reflash
Not many trucks on the road with calibrated gauges. I have seen em read different just from pulling em out and putting the same gauge back in when doing another job that requires it. The same is true when replacing a broken one with a new one of the same type, manufacturer, model. Something I do fairly often since I have way to many to count in my engine room. This is one possibility, another is that its just pulling more boost as Grandpa stated for whatever unknown reason. BTW Grandpa, feel free to run that engine to redline. The crucial break in period is just the first couple hours of operation. By that time the damage is done or not. When I get an inframe done by the boys from NC or EMD or whatever they will be there for the first hour maybe two during sea trial making sure your giving the engine proper loading (warranty on the inframe will be denied if you fail to provide proper loading) and thats it. The engine is considered broken in. Of course ring sealing is still occuring, parts are still seating, etc. but the critical time is over. Not saying you should run it a couple hours and flog the bejesus out of it, just that your engine is for the most part well and truly broke in at your milage/hours. As to the reflash, mine made no discernable difference.
Re:Reflash
Mine was done about a month ago with no undesirable changes. I thought that my mileage had dropped like others reported on this board, but it was all in my head, as the hand calculated mileage has remained the same.
Re:Reflash
My mileage dropped. I was not having any of the symptoms but had it flashed anyway.<br><br>I've seen 32 lbs. of boost on my SO/5-speed but, then again, I have the Edge supplied boost elbow installed.
