Rebuild 07 5.9l
Rebuild 07 5.9l
Hi new here from TX.
I have an 07 5.9l with 202k. It is having pretty bad blowby drinking oil and blowing it under the truck. (no fuel in the oil.) it is idling like crap but runs okay. No smoke of any color unless high RPM downshifts let out a little black.
I was quoted 15000.00 to replace the engine. (He did not take the head off).
Does that seem excessive? I've never had to rebuild a diesel before, even thou I've owed 12v for 20+ yrs.
Truth be told I definitely cannot afford that.
Thoughts?

I'm no where being a pro shade tree machanic, but have done most of the drivetrain work, brakes, axle seals, bearings and U joint, rad flush, and a few other small stuff. Somewhere down the road I may need to do the engine switch, and I am gearing myself up for that. So have someone else look it over and I would suggest that you watch a bunch of You Tube videos to get more acquainted with DIY type of projects on your truck. If you have a friend or two that are good at swinging wrenches, and have done some of this type of work you could consider it.
I'm not opposed to using mechanics and diesel shops to do some work, but with the price of the diesel trucks, and the cost of a lot of parts and repairs - it's good to try and do some of he work when one can. There's a lot of good info here and all it takes is Time, Patience and asking the right questions. It seems like a monumentus task ( and is for a someone trying to get a handle on it) but it can be done.

I generally have no problems doing my own mechanical work. However, I'm not equipped to pull an engine.
I'm trying to get some other quotes online, worst case scenario, since it was my wife who took the truck to the shop while I'm out of the country for work.
I knew it would be expensive, but that number was quite the shocker.
