Rear wheel seal
Rear wheel seal
Good Morning gentlemen,
I'm having a bit of an issue here. I purchased a 2004 AAM 11.5" rear (SRW) to replace my blown up Corporate 14 Bolt under my C/3500 Chevy. I'm currently working on the hubs and can't seem to figure out this seal design. Its not the traditional "press into the back of hub" type seal. This one doesn't even come close to fitting and has a rubber based lip that almost looks like it would slide over the outside of the hub VS inside. Problem is that I can't seem to get the seal or the lip to flex enough to fit. I ordered the seal from Pepboys and checked it against the ones Rockauto sells. They are both the same Part number. Am I missing something here? Would really appreciate the help.

Update. Don't know why but Rockauto shows 2 different types of seals that are associated with a 2004 AAM 11.5" rear. This is the seal that Pepboys had supplied me with.

After wasting my time trying to get the seal to co-operate with the hub I did some research. This seal also comes up under there parts search. I pulled the other hub off the passenger side of the axle and checked the seal. This one seems to be what I was looking for:

These 2 seals are used on all 3500 trucks from 2003 up to 2009. After which, Rockauto states that seal I have pictured above is only used on dual rear wheel equipped vehicles, and this "other seal" doesn't exist. I returned the "wrong seals" to pepboys and put an order through for these proper looking seals from Rockauto. When they arrive I'll report back as to if this solved my issue

The seal you've got there does look allot like the one for the dually rear. Take a look at the Wiki article I did on rear brakes. There are several pics of the dually rear seal including pics of the Dodge part with numbers.
