Dual rear wheel to single rear wheel...?
Dual rear wheel to single rear wheel...?
Was just wondering if it is possible to turn a dually into a srw truck and what it would consist of. If anyone knows anything about it...I would appreciate the feedback.
Thanks,
Brad

It can be done, read about a few of them. The obvious is the bed, sounds like it's easier if you purchase another bed off of a SRW truck. If you take the fenders off there are alot of holes to fill. Also the rear axle on the DRW trucks is a little wider which will cause your tires to stick out past the bed a little. There's more and I'm sure others will chime in.
I see beds on eBay frequently for decent prices. Also I have seen a few DRW trucks with with single wheels. They kept the DRW bed, added fender flares in the front, and put 35x14.50's all the way around. They seemed to fill the fenderwell nicely.
You will need to be careful with the rim offset...could affect bearing loading on the rear (and front) axle, ultimately causing premature failure.
Do you need/want the weight capacity? Look into tires known as 'super singles'. Don't know too much about them....Seen several posts last year on the diesel stop.

Cat,
That is kinda what I am hoping to find is someone that would want to swap everything or a salvage yard that would swap it all out.
As for the weight issue...no I do not need to haul a bunch of weight anymore. That is why I was thinking of doing this is because I love my truck and want to make it a little more practical at the same time.
Thanks for the replys...keep em coming though.

I came really close to doing it but I'm glad I left it a dually. It would have required not only new wheels and tires, of coarse, but new lugnuts and center covers as well, maybe even shorter studs. The spacers on the front hubs come off and the bolt pattern and center dia. is the same. I measured the offset of my 3/4T wheels and the center of that wheel (w/o the deep dish spacer) would have been the same as the 1T wheel with the spacer. I think the back would have been about 2-3" wider. I have an 03 dually box for sale. Craig
