Rear Axle update - Noise is gone

Just got the truck out of the shop. What a difference. The noise is completely gone. Even the noise at low speeds that I had attributed to the transmission (because the noise changed depending on the gear) is gone. The noise must telegraph right up the drive line. The tech said he had never seen one like this. Figured it was a soft pinion. If this fixes it permanently, I will be a happy camper. FWIW.

Was this just a replacement part? Or did DC make some updates?

Sorry, I should have given more information. The dealer installed a new ring and pinion to correct a god awful howl at 65 mph. They are a matched set. I would have preferred a whole new axle assembly but if this fixes it, I will be ok with it.

Casey,
Do you have any shudder in low gears with your fiver on? Only 1st, 2nd and 3rd if pushing it. You are loading at about what I do, so it would be interesting to see if yours has it too.
Any rattle at low rpms especially in lower gears? Wish my dealer could pinpoint my problems.

Bob,

No shudder or rattle. Never had it. Have they replaced your clutch?

Casey, I had the same problem / fix on mine. About 35,000 kms on the truck and ring & pinion were replace under warranty. Bonus is that this weekend when I'm changing driveline fluids, I don't have to do the rear end !

That was the first try - - new clutch. I guess the new one is a little heavier than the first with different springs that are not supposed to rattle when in neutral.
