Is this really an ECM problem?

The front three injectors failed with the #1 injector showing a short. The dealer says the ECM is bad. I think they are smoking crack. I will get a new ECM in a few days. I guess I will have to wait for it to fail again and then hope they fix it.

So how many of you have had a bad ECM? I see many injector issues but I have never heard of an ECM problem.

Very rare for ECM to fail, I have changed injectors and valve cover gastet with the wiring many times. If one injector fails it will take out three injectors since it uses the stored energy in injector to fire the other injectors. I would say shorted injector is the problem more then ecm. Check the resistance of each injector. It should be less then one ohm but more then 0 ohm.

I agree, also check the plug at the valve cover for broken pins.

The 2006's had early problems with the injector wiring harnesses, and yes, it took out 3 injectors when the harnesses failed, you might want to bring your dealership up to speed about this and get the right stuff fixed. Changing the ECM out will not solve what could be a wiring harness failure.

Easy way to test for shorted injector or ECM.
One at a time, disconnect both wires from each injector and insulate the terminal ends so the circuit will not short to ground on the effected bank (1-3 for P2146 or 4-6 for P2149). Clear the codes and start the engine, check if the same code resets. If an injector is disconnected and the code does not reset, replace that injector

One problem I have is that this problem comes and goes. By the time I get it to the dealer the truck runs fine. I even had it towed this time and the darn thing ran perfect there but the code was present.

Will the ohm reading be valid when the truck runs well?

What code? This one? P2146-BANK 1 (CYLINDERS 1-3) SHORTED HIGH OR LOW

Measure resistance of each circuit in the injector harness from pigtail side to injector harness connector. Is resistance above 1 ohm? Yes, Replace the injector harness

Measure the resistance between the solenoid posts of each injector.

NOTE: Be sure to zero the ohm meter prior to checking the injector circuit.

Is the resistance less than 1 ohm and greater than 0 ohms? No, Replace the fuel injector or injectors

I am not sure if it was P2146 or P0201. I will find out. I just remember #1 injector shorted. It is not on the work order.

Does anyone know if they replace the ECM with a new one or a reman? The part is $1,700.00 (Yikes!)

One good thing is if it doesn't fix your problem you get a free pcm. But then you will have to pay for a $600 fuel injector. Once they program your vin and secret code is transfered into PCM it is worthless to them except for a core.
