Ran out of diesel/low idol stalling

Yup iv done it I ran my 03 5.9l out of diesel. So I filled the tank turned key numerous time pump seams to be working blew lots of black smoke as I feathered the gas pedal. Seams to run fine.
i did all 6 injectors about a month ago and since then I have been havering this low idol coasting down a slight hill to a stop sign dieing it's like it chokes itself out.. Then after multiple turn key and cranking it will fire but blow lots of black smoke as i rev it up. Is there a way to bleed the fuel line through the common rail? I thought I head something along those lines.. Don't know if air could have gotten into the fuel system when the injectors where done.? Any help on either topic would be greatly appreciated..

Noop, CR are self bleeding. Don't crack the fuel lines, it is very dangerous. At idle you have 5000-6000psi coming out. It sounds as if you may have an install issue.

This is happened to me several times. just turn the ignition on and off several times (10-15) you'll hear the fuel pump cycle. It will bleed all the air out of the system on it's own. will be fine.

Spooler, What could it possibly be to do with the instal? Or is it just a coincidence that its come up after the injector install? Thx for the info on the cr being self bleeding.

Thx dejaybailey yeah that is what iv done and I can defiantly hear the pump working, every time I turn my key I hear the pump run so I know it's working.

I think you need to get a rail pressure gauge, you may have a sticky injector or a fca

Thx Carl45 could you educate me on how the rail pressure gauge works, is it for a pillar pod or just a tool, as for the fca what does that mean?

Injector tubes may not be sealing well to injectors. Can cause high return rate to tank or even adding fuel to your oil. Make sure you chaeck oil level often incase fuel is leaking into the crankcase. I recently replaced my injectors and attempted to re-use the stock tubes because I thought they looked fine. My truck ran well but was leaking fuel into crankcase. I had to replace tubes and then truck was back to normal. While I was searching for answers others chimed in saying the connector tubes can cause rail pressure to fluctuate and cause problems. The other item that comes to mind is your PRV valve. It the valve is leaking you will not maintain pressure like it should to have the injectors run properly. TC diesel was a great resource to me when I was having trouble. He also offer replacement parts less expensive and better than the stock components used on the fuel rail.

How many miles on the truck? Any add on boxes or programmers used over time? When I did my injectors I also replaced my PRV as it had been 170k running aftermarket programmers and thought the PRV was due to be changed. Just in case you may be in similar age and use.

Best of luck troubleshooting your problem.
