Quick question on gearing.
Just wondering what the lowest gear ratio anyone has ran in their truck, and for what application? I know that the two most popular are the standard "highway gear" 3.73, then there is the popular 4.10. I am just curious if anyone in particular has used a lower gear for racing applications or a higher gear for pulling. Look forward to the input, thanks.
clint the transmission gearing and tire size has to be figured in not just the 3rd member. rockcrawler has a g56 with a 6th gear ratio that put's him the same as 4.10 they changed the gear ratio for the 6.7 he can exchange with someone and get what he wants. you need to fill out your sig so we can see what you have. we tow very heavy and go the other direction on some of the older trucks we changed to 4.56 i bought a early 3500 98 that had about 3.73's in it we just changed tire size and it brought it to the equivilent of 4.10 the direction you want to go the tire size is larger and if you pull a 5th wheel the extra height becomes a problem.
Hey sorry about the sig thing I haven't been on here in a minute. I hope this helps I'm still fuzzy on what you are saying about the 6.7 and the G56. I was just wondering about swapping the rear end gears with a stock drive train, I want to ad a lift and 35's or maybe even 37's if I can down the road and set it up for desert style off roading. I'm gonna be living in western Colorado and be doing 50/50 highway / interstate and gravel roads at around 45-55 and of course hunting so the occasional low range creeping and pulling at max a toy hauler. I'm lookin into an 01 longbed for heavy pulling. That's all I have for now. Thanks for the help.
