Question on valve adjustment.

I'm doing some reading and research on the proceedure to check and adjust the valves on my 2004 diesel Ram.

After looking at a "few how to" descriptions I'm confused as to exactly where to use the feeler guage. It appears from the picture on one proceedure the feeler guage goes UNDER the bridge on top of each individual valve, see 1st picture:

While in another proceedure it appears the feeler guage goes directly under the rocker arm on top of the bridge, see 2nd picture:

Am I missing something?
Which way is correct?

Thanks.

Second picture is correct, first picture is confusing for someone who has never done it before. Two gauges are shown, second gauge is shown since there are two thicknesses required. One to adjust intake and one to adjust exhaust valve.

from looking at it,...first pic shows 2 feeler guages exposed only becuase the one "not in use", is not folded back into the magizine/case.

so both pics shows the exact same thing
