hey guys i was wondering what this particular noise is that i get in my truck. When i shut down the truck a squeaking noise happens. It dose not happen all the time so i was just wondering what it could be.

 

it's the belt, usually doesn't sqweek when cold or wet. I just ignore mine, there is a voluntary recall I believe for an overdrive pully for the alternator or eliminate the noise but you have to pay unless it's still under warranty (I could be wrong on the recall info).

Some years were notorious for a belt squeak on shutdown.

What this is, is the engine stops rotating before the accessory belts do hence the squeak. A diesel has a lot of compression and stops very fast.
