Question about my 06'

Good Morning, Gents...I apologize for the ignorance...but I am the owner of an 06' Dodge Megacab SRWD with a 6spd transmission.....

Long Story Short......This truck has been dealer maintained since day1....ok....

I left for a year (fishing industry) and my son drove the truck while I was gone...

he has gone over 12063 miles without an oil change...yes I know..what is wrong with that boy!!! last oil change and maintenance service was 100034.......did'nt tow anything and no racing just highway driving.

Since this is my 1st Diesel...anything hurt or am I ok???

Welcome to the forum!

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I have a friend that lets his go for 10,000 at a time. Truck now has 320,000 on it.

I would change the oil and filter a couple times on a short cycle and see
if you get any oil usage between changes. You might have alot of carbon in the pan so the short cycle changes should clean that up.

When you get time fill in your profile stuff in the user CP. Upper left.

I have an '06 also. I wouldnt worry about a thing! The factory manual recommends oil changes for the cummins every 7500 miles for 'rough service' and 15000 miles for 'normal service'.

I think they list rough service as towing, dusty roads, short trips w/out engine warm up, etc.
And normal is what you discribed...very light or no towing, and mostly highway with engine up to operating temps often.

I dont think I will be going 15,000miles between services, but Im thinking 10,000miles might be a good round number to do the engine oil and fuel filters.

Hope this eases your mind.

Scott

I normally change at about 7500 but during an extended trip earlier this year racked up about 10K towing before I got home. Since the oil on an '06 turns black almost immediately you can't really tell if there's more carbon or not. As suggested, a couple of shorter change intervals should get you back on track. Run it and don't worry unless you develop some sort of problem like excess oil use. On my '98, I had the service tech and service manager tell me I was changing too often when I followed the heavy duty schedule.

It's fine.
Think about how many cars on the road, even high milers, that don't get regular service.
You're right in the ballpark between light use and heavy use intervals.
I go 8-9k mi on mine for every oil change and got one up around 12k mi once.

I agree with the others, it's fine. Do an oil change and move on. If you're interested in how the truck did in those 12k, take an oil sample and send it off for analysis.
