Problems with 2003 2500

I have a 2003 Quad Cab with 84000 kms which I purchased used in August of 2004. I have used it exactly once to pull my fifth wheel trailer about 400 KMs. Currently it gets a heavy workout hauling kids around to school etc.

It has been in the shop 5 times since I bought it. First for a new transfer pump (which lasted 13 months forcing me to pay the $100 deductible for a new one since the part warranty was 12 months). I have also had all the U joints replaced, plus the drive shaft, but not at the same time so I have had to pay the deductible again. Now I am told that the leak on my garage floor is from the power steering gear which can't be repaired and has to be replaced for $700. Steering is apparently not essential so this is not covered by the extended warranty.

I have never been more dissapointed in a vehicle than I am with this one. I bought it because it was supposed to bullet proof but right now I would just love to be able to get rid of it. In my garage is a new Acura TL that would have been a Dodge Charger had all this crap not happened.

I sent a note to Dodge of Canada who advised that they are happy to honor their warranty (such as it is) but basically that is it. The fact that a $40,000 vehicle can only work for 2 months at a time without major repairs is apparently not a concern.

I spoke to my dealer who said that this vehicle would be worth 25,000 on a trade, but given all my problems he could get me into a Jeep for $20,000 difference. Too bad its made by Chrysler or maybe I would look harder at his kind offer.

Sorry this is a bit of a rant.

Go to a different dealer and see what they'll give you on trade. My '03 started leaking something and the lift pump was starting to go so I just said to heck with it I'm trading it in for a MegaCab. Two different dealerships offered me $35,000 for starters for my truck with 65000kms on it (I only paid $44600 new). When all was said and done we settled on $15800 plus my truck for a $54000 2006. The black book value on the '03 was $26-28000 (plus cap and remote start).

This won't help but the PS pump is one of the big reasons I don't have my o3 any more. I had 3 new pumps in just under 2 years and 30,000 miles. Would be on atleast the 4th if I had kept the truck as the 3rd new one was leaking. On the other side of things I think the engine was great much better than the others out at this time in cludign the one I am driving.

Scott BNB, fill in your signature so people will know exactly what you are driving. That way when you are asking specific questions the experts around here, of which I am not one, can give you better answers.
