Pretty Disappointed
The first mistake was trying to pull him around in reverse. You loose way too much power reverse things and with the addition of the sloppy converter all you did was heat the crap out of the trans. Reverse is not made to tow or be used very long. Just backing up a heavy 5'er will raise havoc with temps and tear the trans up if you do it too much. Turn it around and go forward for best results.
The second problem is without wheel speed you will never see enough fuel to make any power. You have to keep the boost above 12 psi and the wheel speed over 5 to 10 mph to get the ECU to ramp the fuel curve. Without a box or DL to fool the ECU you will only get enough fuel to make 1/2 or less rated power without boost and wheel speed.
Your truck is not really made to do dead hooks like that without major mods so be careful what you take on for challenges.

From the list of parts he has to get - Who says you didn't win the pull? That's a lot of stuff to waste trying to hold up your end don't you think? I would have thought that reverse would have been yout 'tightest' gear since it is used the least. I was pulling some pretty heavy stuff in reverse with my truck the other day and the power was phenomenal in 4H, in fact, I did not use 4L because I knew I'd break the wheels loose. Sometimes you get a better pull in 4H, that said, 4L is beyond phenomenal for dead pulling.

...the radiator and fan were the only parts I legitemately broke by warping his winch assembly upward when we were pulling against each other
...I think point in case in this situation, reverse is just NOT meant for what I was trying to do with it...with the dead weight of his truck (5000lbs +/-) then him pulling backwards against me, I was trying to pull more like 8-10000lbs of dead weight in reverse...now that I think about it, it's a little far fetched
...we should have just waited till we had a tow strap and did bumper to bumper like everybody in here has concluded...same thing I concluded when I noticed my CTD wasn't pulling a weak old gasser

x2 !!
Derek:
You also have to consider the only weight you had was the front half of the Dodge. Nothing was in the bed was it? Not to mention, reverse is a much smaller gear than 1st gear (in physical size.) At least that is what I remember about pulling with my Toy & Bowtie - always pull from the back in 1st and not backwards in Reverse. I could be wrong with this infor, it's just memory from when I was young and dumb. Now I am older and dumb and try to recall the hard lessons I learned back years ago!
IMHO You also have to realize you obviously did alot of damage to that just by pulling him. Served him right and you shouldn't be held accountable for it. It was his taunting that got him to have to replace all that stuff!

bad idea if the truck he is pulling is lower than his, if you do that, take y9our tailgate off... If the strap is pulling down on your tail gate, it will not be good...
