Power Steering assist on steroids...

Hi,
My power steering is waaay to easy to turn, its like the assist has a turbo, supercharger and propane. Very sensitive and over assisting is the best was to describe it. Today the assist "turned off" for two seconds while driving. Fluid level and condition are ok. Ordered a new pump and belt. This is a reman Cardone 20-70268 (old pump, installed Oct 2012). Anything else I should have at the ready for the swap other than the pulley swap tool? @ 148,000 MI

Finally getting to this, Installed new pump, hoses, and filter, also a rebuilt Gear. Waiting for tie rods to button up, bleed, and test. Doing shocks, Sway bar bushings, and links and taking on the track bar bushings. Will post once tested to see if steering issue cleared.

Advice?

So, new pump, hoses, and rebuilt gear in. Bleed system, short test drives seems ok. Then on the way into work, steering getting harder and fluid leak. Only have $400 in parts so far. Anyone do the "upgrade" to heaver duty gear and pump? What year pump and gear am I looking for? Ah track bar and sway bar redone and in fine.

My friend installed Mopar's big box steering gear.
It's super tight. Steering effort is a bit higher than stock. Definitely not a one thumb box.
He got it here. Good shop. Good tech support too.

repaired

leak found, pump replaced. Holding so far. Staying with stock for now. Steering tightened up with rebuilt swaybar and track bar bushings. Have steering brace with new bearing, may install next service/oil change.
