Hi guys, i've posted a few times before but am ready to give up on my truck. I've got an 06 with lots of trouble. Dead ecm, new idler pulley, new clutch fan, new fcm. I took it in this last time for (my only real complaint since the tech fried my ecm and everything else happened) a loud knock/rattle that appears at idle when my truck is fully warm. They know I've been in there 25 plus days so they get me in and out quick now. The deaf shop foreman said it was the valves? Said some were loose and some were tight, she's ready to pick up. I go pick it up and it is a little quieter when driving but idle shows the knock even more. I say that's it, I'm outta here. I get asked to turn the truck off at drive thru's, come on. Never did that happen in my 03. I know something is wrong. I need a good mechanic, who can hear, to tell me it is an injector or whatever. I still have never gotten over 11.8 mpg & get 7.5 towing my 24ft Keystone. Any ideas anyone. Please.

If you are only getting 11.5 mpg without towing, there is definitely something gone wrong. I have 2006 2005 4x4 and I am getting up around 18 consistently. See if you can find a cummins shop in the area that will take 10 minutes to listen to it and see if the knock is unusual. If no cummins dealer in the area, see if you can find another dealer that specializes in selling more trucks than the typical Dodge dealer. They may have a better diesel tech on staff.

I agree with what they said. Try and get something in writing. I would be lookin into a lemon law truck at that point

No manufacturer is perfect. Just like SOME Fords are actually reliable, even SOME Dodges are lemons.

Make them fix it right or give you a new truck (via lemon law). You paid good money for this truck.

And though it pains me to say it, if they don't treat you right-- screw them and buy a Ford or GM. The minute we all buy Dodge no matter how bad they are, we all become just as bad as the Ford guys who buy one Ford after another no matter how bad their experiences are.

A brand has to earn its loyalty-- not once, not twice , but CONTINUOUSLY. The minute my Cummins Dodge fails to deliver what I think is fair performance, it's gone-- done. I'll trade it in on a Toyota or a Honda Civic or something.

In our capitalistic system, voting with your checkbook is the only voting that really matters in the economy.

Run your tank of fuel down to 1/2 tank. Dump in 32oz of Power Service and take a 100 mile drive. If it is dirty or sticky injectors, that will clean it up. Just a few dollars for maybe an easy fix.

Tell your dealer to let you listen to an other truck side by side off the lot. They dont know your truck like you do so if there is a difference they will hear it also.

Here is what I think you should do:
A. Find out the lemmon law and how it applies to this truck. Excersize the law if it applies.
B. If lemmon law doesn't apply, do the following:
1. Get the general manager involved (not just the service manager, he only
cares about service) . The General Manager is the one that has to
convince you to buy another Dodge in the future and convince you to
recommend your buddies to his facility. Repeat clients are their
best sales.
2. Whatever makes you mad about the situation, Don't shout - people
don't like to listen to or respect people who yell. Dealers are used to
ignoring people who yell about their car You will get more out
of keeping a cool-head.
3. Plan your strategy about how to explain your situation in a way that
will politely put them in your shoes about how you really feel regarding
your expensive purchase. Help them understand your pain.
4. Be persistent, explain yet don't show your frustration.
5. Ask them what their plan is for your truck if the issue isn't resolved.
(remember to be polite and tactful).

They will be more willing to work with you when they know how badly they are really treating you.

If that doesn't work, they are hopeless. Either dump the truck or find a new Service provider. Write a letter to Dodge explaining the entire situation. That should make you feel better...
I had a similar problem and after weeks of the service consultant lying to me to get rid of me, I got the GM involved and he did whatever I wanted to keep me as a happy customer and future client.
After all that I still switched dealers because their techs didn't know a head of lettuce from a head-gasket and the liar is still employed at the facility...

Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I am truly upset at the whole situation. I love these trucks and probably did get a lemon. My truck would need another attempt to get fixed or 3 more days out of service to qualify for the LL. There is no doubt something is wrong. And literally two of the times I brought it in for service an 03 was parked next to me idling as smooth and quiet as it should be. Have a great night guys. Feels good to vent.

Have you tried another dealer? Maybe you have "rookie" tech that doesn't know his diesel's as well as he should?

Next week I am going to another dealer. I do have Cummins NW here. Maybe one of their guys can listen to it for me and give me feedback. Thanks.

Rick I really can't can't give you any advice that's any better than what's been posted. I really hate hearing about stories like these, it just sucks when you're the one dealing with it.

Good luck brother, and I hope things work out and put a smile on your face.

Mark
