does the pilot injection turn off when these trucks are cold
when i crank mine up when its below 45 degrees it is really loud through first and second gears then it quitens down
at idle its quite its only loud when i press the throttle

Re:pilot injection
Mine does the same, they all do. When they're bone cold I don't think the initial pilot burst of fuel lights off at first, only when the bigger shot hits, and when it does light there is more fuel in the cylinder causing a louder clatter.
Sooo, in closing, they're not quite as quiet in the morning 'til they quit the kwatter

Re:pilot injection
Actually your pilot injection is quite likely turned off. During testing on the scope, its been found by a variety of sources that the pilot injection will often turn itself off when under certain load conditions. I'm not sure about temperature sensors, however the additional load of a cold engine may be enough to turn off the pilot injection until you get up a couple gears. Most of the 03/04 trucks that I've been around will exihibit this tendency.
