Parking Brake Shoe removal

My Driver side parking brake shoe(s) are dragging. Backed off adjuster still dragging. Live in flatland's so was considering removing the shoes. Anyone done this? Do I have to pull the axles (single rear wheels)? Do have a hardware kit and will try replacing the springs 1st.

I haven't had shoes on the driver's side for almost two years. Sprung an axle seal and it ruined the shoes, so I took them off and haven't replaced them yet.
