Brake shoe wear

Hello,

I just took my drums off the back of my 2001 2500 Diesel and on both sides the shoes are worn more than the front shoes.

There seems to be two contact areas on each shoe and that is slowly turning into one big contact area on the 2 back shoes on each side, is that okay?? There is plenty of rivet room left, but the parking brake isn't working anymore either.

Thanks for any input.

I would say that is normal. The rear drum brakes just don't wear fast at all. Don't rely on the auto adjuster. You'll need to adjust them yourself. Search this site for many threads about rear drum adjustment.

The front shoe always wears faster.
On some rigs brand new shoes even have a thicker lining on the front shoe vs. the rear because of this.
