Panic Alarm????
Panic Alarm????
The other evening I was watching TV and got up out of my chair in the living room. My key for my truck was in my pocket with a tube of chap stick, and I guess the chap stick pushed in on the panic button when I was getting out of my chair. I was unable to shut off the alarm/lights flashing... The remote at that point would NOT stop the alarm. I even tried starting the truck, which it did fine, but would not cancel the alarm. Eventually it stopped after a minute or two. Any others experience this, or know how to stop the alarm once it's triggered??
Thanks.
Thanks.
I've done that a time or two, the trick is..... when you push the panic button to stop the alarm the trucks response is not instantaneous, point and push then wait a sec. Its always a rush to stop the annoyance; you end up pushing it multiple times which starts/stops all at the same time. Mine has an appreciable lag between when I push the button till when it stops honking.
Now you know why its called a "Panic Alarm". When one accidentally trips that button it creates instant PANIC trying to figure out how to silence the dang thing! That button is w-a-a-a-y too easy to accidentally trip. Ask me how I know
and boy is it annoying to anyone that happens to be close to it when it goes off.
Incidentally, I recall the manual also saying that it will turn off after the vehicle reaches 15 mph. That would be a PANIC-N-RUN situation and I guess they figure the BAD GUY ain't gonna catch you by the time you hit 15 mph and accelerating.

It could have been worse. I had mine go off while tailgating at a ball game. I couldn't get it to shut off with the fob, probably because I wasn't holding the button long enough. I ended up disconnecting the truck batteries while everyone around me laughed. I did get a nice round of applause from about 100 people once I got the horn silenced!!
After that, I did as Dan mentioned and put electrical tape over the Panic button contacts on all of my fobs. Not a single false alarm since!

The worst time I've had it happen to me was in the middle of the night. My keys were in my pants pocket, which go on the floor next to the bed at night. One of the dogs decided that my jeans seemed like they'd be a comfortable place to lay down and the button got pushed. Once I figured out that that annoying racket was coming from my truck, it was a panic to 1) get the dog off the pants and 2) get the truck to shut up.
Thanks for the tips. This was the first time this has happened to me, and NO I did not hit the panic button again to try to shut up the truck. With other vehicles I have owned just unlocking the door will halt the noise.
Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!
