My unlock equals a panic for Land Rover

The strangest thing happened today at the store. I was leaving with my daughter and hit the unlock button on my key fob twice. A Land Rover that was parked near my truck started to beep it's horn. A women was loading her groceries into her car and I thought that she must have bumped the Land Rover. I'm not sure what made me think of it but after the alarm stopped I hit my unlock button again twice and again the Land Rover's alarm went off. I hit my button once, it turned off. I hit it twice and again it went off.

Now, I've only had a couple of cars with the key fobs and this is the first time something like this has occurred. I know there are a limited number of code combinations available, just like there are for garage door openers. I was wondering how many others have had this occur?

Of course, for me the down side is that while I could make the Land Rover horn honk the owner should be able to unlock my truck by hitting his panic button.

Speaking of which, anyone ever locked their key in their truck and tried calling someone with the spare key fob and having them hold it up to their phone and press the button while you hold your phone toward the truck? Dumbest thing I've ever heard but a co-worker sweared that's how he unlocked his car a few weeks back.

A long time ago I had this happen with an aftermarket alarm system and another vehicle in the parking garage. If that vehicle was within 40 feet or so from mine I could make it chirp with my remote.

Depending on the owner and vehicle that could be a whole lot of fun every now and then..

No if only the actual key worked too. That'd be too funny.

If it wasn't for the fact that I was trying to get my daughter home to take some pain medication (she just had four teeth pulled so that she can have braces put on) I would have stayed and had some real fun.

Everyone who walked near that Land Rover would have gotten a beep. If I could spot the owner I would have had great joy. Can you imagine them taking their SUV into the dealer and trying to explain that one.

Considering that this grocery store serves a relatively small population it's quite likely that I'll see this owner again.
