Pacbrake or Jacobs

The only reason I mention these two is because dodge will warranty these two.
I'm about to purchace a 05 and was thinking of having one installed before I pick it up.
Who has experence with these two on your 600's, and tell me what you like or dislike about them.
thanks Rod

Better check again. I don't think the Pacbrake is warrantied. If you still think it is, did your dealer tell you that? If not, where did you hear it?

I had a Jacobs on my 99 and it worked great, never a problem.

I now have a PacBrake on the 05 and it has been working great as well.

My reasons for going with the Pac are as follows.

The price. Pac = $730 with shifter switch. The Jake was a little over $1100. I should note that I installed mine myself.

I don't like the idea of the Jake running a vaccum pump whenever the engine is running, and also needing a different serpintine belt than stock.

The Pac comes with a compressor that only kicks on when the brake is activated.

Plus the Pac makes a cool pssst when the brake turns off. LOL

I hope this helps.

The expense is from the engineering costs related to making sure it conforms with Cummins Engine Design Specs. I'd spend the extra $400 to keep my warranty anyday.

Is the Pac a compressor or a vaccum pump? I don't have experience with the Pac setup. I have lots of experience on the Jake setup. Is it an electric pump? I guess it would save HP too (although prolly 1/2 hp or so).

I also just sold a 99 with the Jacobs brake. I loved it and the 05 version is on order (back ordered) for my 05.

Yes the Pac has a compressor and yes it is an electric pump.

RankRam,

Since you have owned both, tell us about the braking performance of each. Does one seem to stop the vehicle faster?

I can't tell much difference between the two.

I'm just glad to have a truck with an E-Brake again.

I have read somewhere that the 3rd gen. trucks have a different cam design and do require more rpm's to get the effective braking for the E-Brakes.

Ah, you might have something there. 3erd gen. trucks reguire more rpm's. So maybe Jacobs may be the best sence they work better at higher rpm where pacbrake and bd have better lower rpm brakeing. I liked the BD and pac for second gen's but maybe the jacobs are better for 3erd gen's. Any thoughts on this?

Cam change?

I don't buy it. They made the bleed hole bigger to come down on pushrod forces.

On a different cam note, I have heard that a cam from a 305HPCR engine will fit in a 4 valve VP44 enigne for a big increase in performance. However, I have never heard of someone actually trying it.

Anyone?
