P1740 and OD housing leak
P1740 and OD housing leak
I've got a p1740 code that has been popping up randomly. I changed the fluid in the pan and the filter. While doing that I noticed one of the OD housing bolts right above the back of the pan seemed to be leaking. Its not a bad leak, just a drip here and there in the driveway. The truck is shifting just fine and goes into OD fine. Itay be my paranoia but it seems to shift softer than before. If I clear the code it takes it a week give or take of driving for it to come back.
The back story is i just got done towing a 5th wheel (30ft, somthing like 7 or 8 thousand pounds) from washington to arizona and the tranny got pretty hot most of the way. I put a 180 degree thermostat in before I left so from what ive read it sounds like the fan clutch wasn't locking up all the way due to the engine temp staying under 200. This caused the tranny to run hot. This may be completely wrong, i couldnt find a definite answer. I did my best to keep it under 220 but it would climb into the 230s on bad hills and climbed to 240 once. I never let it stay above 220 for longer than 5 or 10 mins. I threw the code in salt lake, then babied it the rest of the way to phoenix. The fluid still had red color to it and didnt smell too bad. The pan was clean other than the silver goop on the magnet.
would there be any other reason for the leak from the bolt other than a cracked housing?
if there was a crack in the housing could this be the cause of my code?
thanks for the help!!!!
