Transmission Tailshaft Housing

Anyone ever have their Tailshaft Housing begin to leak due to towing? Mine start leaking and dealership cannot tell me if this was caused by towing my Fifth Wheel trailer or not. Any answer I got was "do you tow".. Not really an answer.. I replied that I purchased a 3500 to tow and it should do the job with any leaks.

Like to hear from others.

I noticed your post in another thread about having your output shaft seal being replaced numerous times, and now they say its the tailshaft housing.

My truck had a cracked tailshaft housing when it was new ( I noticed it the day I got it, crawling under the truck for a general look around) It wasn't leaking at the time, but probably would soon.

Anyway, yours was probably cracked from new, and if not your dealer probably cracked it installing one of the numerous seals they have replaced. I don't think it takes much to crack the tailshaft housing if they try to install the seal crooked. I would check and put it on them if it is cracked.

No it has nothing to do with towing anything.

Good luck.

I'm no mechanic, so I took the Dodge to local AAMCO for a free look around and inspection. They found that my transmission pan was loose and that it was overfilled with trans fluid. Snugged up the pan and so far I have not seen a leak again. I'm in great hopes that this was my problem and saved me the $800 that local Dodge *********** wanted to replace TrailShaft housing. Please keep your fingers crossed for me.
