I'm looking to buy my own trailer soon. I've been using dads over the past 7 yrs and it worked good until I started hauling larger stuff. His is a 16 ft BiG Tex flat bed bumper pull that is rated at 7000lbs. He has even out grown it in the past two yrs. I've been thinking of buying my own trailer now. I'd like a gooseneck, it rated at 14k -20k, and have either 3 ramps or a hydraulic dovetail. I need 3 ramps for when I haul some of dads tractors, since that have narrow fronts. The heaviest I'll have on it normally is 12k but i'd like to be prepared incase I haul alot heavier. And hauling heavy does happen sometimes with me. Whats a good brand for Gn trailers? I've heard of PJ,Big Tex, Corn Pro. Would tandem duals be better or triple singles? Thanks

 

You could always build one yourself. Then you'd have exactly what you want the first time instead of having to modify/add to whatever you buy.

i run x-cel trailers. make sure it has a torque tube and stay away from 3 axles tight turns are harder on them. dauls are good but would put you over the 26k rule and change your liscense requirements. get a 3 ramp less weight and chances of problems. you can always load with ramps but if your hydraulic has a fit no load. my .02

 

I vote Big Tex tandem duals. Triple axles could cause problems.

 

triple axle are easier to get moving= better mpg. plus changing a tire on the road is much quickier

 

Triple axle trailer's are very hard on tire's. When I have to make a tight turn,,,or just turn around, the front tire lean's way over one direction, the back tire lean's way over the other direction, and the middle tire roll's alot slower and just scrubs sideway's across the concreate. My trailer eat's middle tire's for lunch. Everyone else that I have talked to said their trailer is the same way.

 

I'd love to build my own, just don't have the time right now. Maybe in the future I can build one the way I want it.

I think I'll be staying away from triples, I won't be seeing alot of highway driving, mostly local and into tight spots.

The local trailer dealer has a couple nice big tex trailers I'm gonna go look at later this week, they have a 14k and a 18k. Only thing that sucks is I have a tonneau cover on my truck but I can roll it up when I need to hook up.

 

Try Kiefer Built. A buddy of mine has one, real heavy built and tows real nice too. They make a goosneck with a soild beam for the neck, makes tight turns nice and easy. The bed of the trailer will hit your truck before the neck will.
