P1740 in an '06 with 45k...
So the check engine light came on, and the truck is saying its code P1740, which I know is the "Torque Converter Clutch Inductive Signature Malfunction". What I don't know is what the really means...anyone else had this code? I plan on disconnecting a battery for a while tommorow night and clearing the ECM to see if that does the trick, but wanted to get some info in the meantime.
Also, does anyone know if this would be covered under a warrenty? I know facoroty is 36k, and I'm at 45k+ now...but thought I would ask anyway. I did buy the extended, but have to find the paperwork on that to see if its covered under there.
TIA.

some more info for you....
P1740 TCC O/D SOL PERFORMANCE (DIESEL)
Theory of Operation
The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid is used to engage the TCC which improves fuel economy.
When Monitored
The Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) and Overdrive Clutch (O/D) will be tested each time the ECM requests TCC engagement in 3rd gear and O/D.
Set Condition
The DTC will set if the expected RPM drop is not achieved while attempting to engage TCC or O/D. This indicates a malfunctioning torque convertor or overdrive clutch.

Possible Causes
- ENGINE DTCS PRESENT
- TRANSMISSION DTCS PRESENT
- TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE TOO COLD
- OIL PAN CONTAINS EXCESSIVE DEBRIS
- 3-4 SHIFT SOLENOID
- SHAFT OR SEAL DAMAGE
- TCC SOLENOID
- TORQUE CONVERTER
I had the same code 5 TIMES!!!! 3 TC, 2 VB, 2 OD solenoids, 2 front input shafts/bushings & 4 reflashes later & my tranny STILL doesn't function properly. All this not pulling anything & less than 18K mi. Good Luck w/ that one.
Oh that is not what I wanted to hear! At least the truck seems to be function completly normal, I haven't noticed any change in the tranny operation at all. The timing is a bit funny though, I had an oil change done and enw tires put on (at the dealership, oil change is a pre-paid service) on Tuesday of last week, new front brake pads were put on Wed, and then a gooseneck hitch installed Friday when I picked up the new trailer, and the light came on Sunday morning. Granted, the dealership was not happy with me Tuesday...they told me I needed brakes and could put front pads on for *only* 220, and when i called them on their misquoted price for pads from their own parts shop (Originally told me they cost 90, when i called parts to confirm that they were 55 and called the service guy on it he wasn't thrilled)-but theres a few hundred miles on the truck between tuesday and when the light came on so I highly doubt they ave anything to do with it.
Haven't had a chance to disconnect a battery and clear the ECM yet-hopefully tonight, this better not be a chronic problem.
Anyone know about the factory warrenty part? At 45k can I expect this to be covered? I'm sure the dealership will want to charge for diagnostics, but past that....ideas?

Disconecting the batt. won't erase the light. U need an OBD II scanner to do it. No, it's not covered past your reg. warranty. I was told improper line pressure may be the culprit, I don't know. They can't properly diagnos(sp) it w/out tearing it apart & then they will probably mis-diagnos it.
I knew there was a reason I got the extended warrenty-now to did through my files and find the brouchure that lists what all it covers. it will be doing into the really good dealership though if its needed (not the crappy one I bought it from)-they have yet to steer me wrong so I'm OK with that, just don't want to spend $100 to find out all they needed to do was clear the code...
That said, I thought on these trucks if you disconnected both batteries negatives, and then touched one of the negatives to the positive post that that would clear everything...I could certainly be wrong...I can always see if I can find an autozone that will do it for me too....one of these days I'm going to just invest in an OBD II scanner, but I wasn't planning on it this week!
