P0148 Code only when towing on 06 5.9

Guys,

I did a search but haven't found anything the same as what I'm dealing with. Last Saturday I was towing buddies 36ft Sonic estimated out loaded to be roughly 13000-14000 pounds. We ran 200 miles and check engine came on 170 miles into trip on highway. Got off highway and started running huge hills. Came into a flat and truck quit but restarted. I continued until truck quit again then wouldn't start. I had a new fuel filter and immediately swapped it out without clearing the code as filter was black and dirty. Tried starting truck with no luck. Cleared the HPCR P0148 code and it started. We proceeded to destination with no problem.
The following day on return trip we hit the hills and truck triggered check engine light again and had a hard time pulling hills but I limped it to first town crawling up hills at 2000 rpm 10 MPH. Pulled filter and it didn't look bad. Had some black on it but still clean in my book. Cleared the P0148 code again and hit the highway pulling 2500 RPM and pulling 75 mph all the way back off the highway. I hit huge hill and hammered the truck to see if it would come back and sure enough it did. Truck only has 60,000 miles on it. I unhooked boat at destination and drove home hammering on truck with no loss in power I don't believe. Cleared code upon arrival. What should I do? This is why I bought the diesel for heavy pulling.
Has anyone experienced this?

FUEL RETURN LINES OBSTRUCTION, DAMAGE, OR DEBRIS is what I found for P0148, did you buy fuel somewhere that you don't typically?

How does return lines get clogged if fuel filter is is in supply line? All debris should be at filter? If I have debris in return lines I would think I have damage in injection system. I did run some fuel that was questionable but have before and it just cost me a filter or two.

YES check your return line to see if has been smashed or has a kink in it.All so you might blow the line out. == GOOD LUCK ==
