p 0628 truck won't start
Hello All, I have an 03 SO with 115k miles on it. It runs great (normally). I was really low of fuel last week and ended up filling up at a brand new Turkey Hill gas station (Rt. 512 in Bethlehem, PA) with a full tank of diesel (poured a ton of diesel kleen in BTW).
Today i was pulling into the car wash after doing about 100 miles and it suddenly died. I tried to start it again and it cranks and cranks then might run for 3-5 seconds and then dies. It does this constantly. (after reading i cannot confirm that i hear my lift pump when i prime the engine)
I have the error p 0628 and I"m going tomorrow back to my truck and going to replace the fuel filter. If that doesn't fix it I'm reading that it's either the injector pump or fuel pump.
If it's he injector pump should I order a replacement from Geno's and do it myself? Are there reasonable aftermarket alternatives?
If it's the fuel pump I guess that's pretty bad and I should just have the dealer take care of it, but again, are there alternatives?

on my 05 the 0628 is low voltage at the fuel lift pump.. sounds like your lift pump died..has it been moved to the tank if not dealer may take care of you depending on milage.or it could be time for an after market pump what ever works best for you..
I'm out of warranty so I"ll probably do it myself. I find it a strange coincidence that I put junky
DIESEL
in and this happens. I have not had any mods done so I expect the pump to be behind the filter like the rest of the 03's but I will confirm tomorrow.
I"ll post a lift pump aftermarket question in the correct forum as to not step on any toes

OK, i fixed the fuel issue in my post
, now onto the fuel system. I ordered the replacement part from Genos for 180$ and I'm going to replace the fuel filter tomorrow, hit the pump and try to get it home then take it from there.
I considered performance parts but they start at over 400$ and since I have no other mods done to my truck really I didn't see the need to start with the fuel system.

SOLVED lift pump
was the lift pump. I ordered a replacement from genos garage. Had it been 15k miles sooner dodge would have done the in tank conversion kit. oh well. Thanks!

ramdez,
The filter mounted lift pumps on these trucks are junk and most of us have replaced them. It's only a matter of time.
The aftermarket pumps, like the Walbro pump from Glacier Diesel should not be considered "performance" parts so much as "better than stock" parts that can keep you from getting stranded.
Get a good pump and be done with it. A prefilter is also a very good idea for dirty fuel.
