Quad XZT and 0628 code

TOday my truck started sputtering badly and felt like it was running out of fuel. I was low on fuel, overhead said that I had 32 miles to go. I have driven it to this point and past many times with no problem. Anyway I checked the codes and got the P0628. I called the dealer and they said bring it in. I disconnected the Quad XZT and put some fuel in it. It ran fine all the way to the dealer no problems at all. Is there any chance that I could have a problem with the XZT box?

Just to clarify also, it ran fine from my place to the station where I put more fuel in, about 2 miles. Before that with the Quad XZT hooked up it would start to die every 1 mile.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Still waiting to hear back from the shop.

the p0628 is the lift pump code. the lift pump is dying. the pump is cooled and lubricated by the fuel it is pumping. pumps are also better at pushing fuel than sucking it. so when you run your tank really low, the head pressure is much less and the pump cannot do an adequate job of supplying the fuel to the cp3.
the dealer will want to put the intank retrofit pump in your 04. then when you run low, it'll really burn up the pump. the good news is the pump will be positioned better to work the way it was designed. most of us just eat the price of an aftermarket(better) setup.
