Question 2007 Mega Cab with 5.9 - opinions!

Hello All! My 2000 Dodge 2500 extended cab 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins has been a great truck for me. 260,000 miles and going strong, but I think it's time for a newer vehicle. I hate to let old faithful go, really nervous about that! But... I'm one signature away from buying a 2007 Dodge Mega Cab 2500 4x4 with the last of the 5.9's in it. It's a 4x4, about 27,000 miles on it. 6-speed tranny.

I am REALLY nervous about moving out of my tried and true 2000. I seriosuly considered switching to a GMC diesel vs. getting a new 6.7 Cummins but then this '07 with the 5.9 showed up at a local dealer and I think I should jump on it. I really like the Mega Cab interior and since it is a Cummins 5.9 I feel comfortable with the motor. I am hoping to maintain the kind of mileage I am getting with my 2000 (about 20-21 mpg highway in summer / 17 or so in winter) or maybe better?

Let's hear some words of encouragement for me to sign the deal... or some words of warning to save me making a big mistake...

If your checkbook will let you ---- DO IT!

You won't be sorry. I love the extra interior room. And I wish I had gone the handshaker route rather than the auto.

Diesel Performance magazine named the 07 2500 5.9 one of the top 10 collectible diesels. Looks like a great set-up too. The manual trans is the one thing I wish my truck had. Go for it.

I say go for it. You'll love it, and you'll have a rare truck. These are gonna get impossible to find. I was in the same book as you, except I had an 05. But I found mine, which is an 07 5.9 qc 4x4 with G56, and I couldn't be happier. I love the 6spd compared to my old auto, and I like the newer body style trucks. Plus, you'll love the Mega Cab. That's the only regret I have on mine is I wish I couldve found the same truck in a mega cab. I say go get it. You won't regret it

Oops... the truck is an automatic, so I meant to write 5-speed transmission.

If your finances allow, keep the 2000 and get the mega. If not, I still wouldn't hesitate. I have no regrets about giving up the longbed for the interior room.

I'd give anything to have my 98.5 back... I've now been through (1) 6.7, had to trade that in... now paying for this piece of CRAP! Out of Warranty expenses... Injection pump, (6)injectors, trans, (2)front ends, drive line, steering, etc... I now have 206K on the P.O.S. and have spent just under 11K in repairs/maint in just over a year! BEWARE of they're incredibly crappy seats. I HOPE CHRYSLER GOES UNDER FOR WHAT THEY HAVE PUT ME THROUGH. Good Luck, I hope you have better luck than i did.

And if you are looking, there is a nice 06 mega cab (white) in the classifieds with something like 14,500 miles for $28K. And I think it is a manual...

I've enjoyed my Megacab. Interior Room is unbelievable. Seats and Air Conditioning are my 2 big complaints. Fuel mileage on the highway with the G-56 manual transmission has been so-so... Great for towing, esp. with the Exhaust Brake.

You know you want it, go get it, then tell us all about it. I love my 06 quadcab, but I needed a long bed. If I didn't, I wouldn't hesitate to get the Mega. Go for it.

Get it. Atleast you wont have to wonder if the VP is on its way out...

These (07 5.9) really arent that rare. So dont think your getting a collectors item (Diesel Power mag is goin downhill FAST with dumb articles) I can find one for sale any day of the week.

LOVE my truck, just wish I had gotten a Mega. And I do miss having a manual. If my trans goes out again, Im tradin it in, maybe on a new Challenger (man those are SWEEEEEETTTT!!!!)

And if you need a longbox, go ahead and get the Mega, take it to Precision Bodyline in Salt Lake City, UT and in two days you'll have the only longbed Mega in your town (most likely)

The only people who don't like MegaCab's...

Are the people who don't own them...

Seriously, if you want to upgrade your truck, you can't go wrong with it!
