Overfilling the NV5600

After the recommendations with the hotshot runners I added more fluid to the NV5600. Went from 5 qts to 6 qts now. I cannot believe the difference the one extra quart did to the transmission. Shifts are reeeeaaaaally smooth now and low rpm gear rattle is pretty much gone. Mikey likey.....

I did that to mine but after a while I started having oil at the bell housing as it seemed to be leaking out the input shaft. I know it was tranny oil as that was the only purple oil (Royal Purple) I have in the truck. I pulled the fill plug and drained a bit out so it is closer to the fill plug and after a bit of time the leaking oil disappeared.

Not saying it is bad, just saying what I experienced.

Well this the first I've heard about overfilling. I run Redline MTL in mine and it did make it shift better but it still shifts hard. Think I will give this a try. Thanks and I'll let ya'll know what happens.

PS what exactly do the hotshoters say about over filling?

Additional fluid helps provide adequate bearing lubrication during grade climbing, plus the reduced gear rattle.

Using the fill/level check plug the capacity is around 4.5 quarts. I added another 1.5 quarts to make it an even 6.

Thanks guys for the info. When I changed the fluid out a while back I could only get 4 quarts back in even with jacking the rear of the truck up. Taking out the top PTO bolt I was able to get about another 2/3 to 3/4 quart more into the tranny!!! I bought 5 quarts of Amsoil when I changed her out and now I only have about 1/4 quart left. So by my calculations, I got about 4.75quarts of Amsoil in there and whatever was left in there when I changed it. I didn't pull the PTO cover when I changed it, so I know there was some left in!!!

She shifts maybe a little smoother. Not much difference at all.

I overfilled mine by removing the console in the floor, after which I then took out the shift tower. You can see right down in the tranny. There is absolutely no spillage this way.

I put in another qt. (total of 5.5) on Sat. - what a difference! Too bad DC can't figure out this high tech stuff. Craig
