One quick question about A/C Compressor.

Can the PAG oil blow out the front seal, and the system still have enough refrigerant left in it worth getting evacuated???

Heres the WHY I'm asking.

18 months ago I replaced the compressor, dryer and lines. Had a shop evacuate the refrigerant, I replaced the parts, and the same shop checked for leaks and re filled with proper amount of refrigerant.

Today the fan belt let go, I got towed home. Found the water pump was shot. However, there was a pool of OIL, not water on the ground and on the side of the air cleaner box, all over the alternator and the pulley were all covered with oil. Its clear, and has no smell.

All other fluids are still full, break, power steering, coolant. SO, I can only guess the oil came out of the AC compressor and it was just a coincidence that the water pump was also shot. The ac clutch spins free, and engages when I turn on the AC.. The AC was running ok, but not very cool when siting in traffic, but that seams common with these trucks...

SO< I have ordered new belt, idler pully, water pump, and want to know IF I should also replace the AC compressor and if I do, is it worth taking it to the shop to have the refrigerant evacuated before I remove the compressor, OR will all the refrigerant be already gone??

Thanks guys

I spoke with an AC tech today, and he confirmed that it would be very unlikely if not impossible for any refrigerant to be left in the system with such a major leak of oil through the front seal of the compressor.

I agree. ANY leak in the system will lose all refrigerant.
