oncoming symptoms of a melted piston
currently have a loud injector knock, i know something is wrong. i am worried about melting a piston. is there any symptoms that will show? EGT?.....thanks
check your oil level, if it is overfilled, you have a failed injector and needs to be replaced.
melted pistons will be caused by sustained excessives egt's. a bad injector will cause smoke, poor running, low power, and if it is cracked or dumping fuel, it will wash the cylinder(which will cause scoring) and fill the crankcase with fuel(causing dilution of the oil) which isnt great for bearing and such.

When i melted my pistons, my oil kinda had a greyish color to it. not to noticable but if u looked close you could tell. Of course mine melted bad enough i could hear metal going through the turbo

Rich-not sure if you are running a rail gauge but did you know your rail pressure? also did the truck seem to lack power at all? or did it just rattle? im really concered bc when i turn up my mp8 it gets louder which leads me to believe its injectors, but i am not leaking diesel into the crack case.
