oil usage????????????

My machine recently started leaking major oil....sometimes. I got a leak cause of a rusting out oil pan, I got a need for a valve cover gasket. I get that, and usually lose 3-4 ounces a day. No biggy. I also have a lot of white smoke that comes from the blow by area, combined with occasional hard starts. Last week i went 600 miles, wake -up the next morning...barely a drop. Drive 200 miles and the whole underbelly has oil dripping and i need about a quart of oil every 200 miles or so...for the next 2k,oil all over the place. Sitting overnight drop maybe 7-8 ounces the next few days. This amount can't be from the oil pan and seems like alot from the gasket ( or could it be?) Today 150 miles around the hood. no big oil usage. Any thoughts???

Since no one else answered, I guess the best I could say is that if it were mine I'd degrease the thing so I could nail down where all the oil is going...

It might also be a good idea to make sure the turbo isn't dumping oil...

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Clean and perhaps some UV dye to locate source. If the draft tube is source, might consider the vacaum pump has a leak and is dumping significant vomume of air into crankcase and blowing oil out tube.

3rd gens don't have a vacuum pump unless you have an exhaust brake. You could put a catch can under the crankcase vent tube to see how much that thin g is letting out.

I'd be checking for diesel fuel in oil.

No diesel fuel ever in the oil. I should of mentioned that it was under tow while leaking all this oil. Someone mentioned rear seal, but that looks like I would havetrans issues and i don't. No oil in anti freeze either.
