Oil Usage

This is my first diesel truck and I'm curious if these trucks are prone to use just a little oil? I don't see any blue smoke when running and I don't have any leaks. I've checked the fluids and I don't see any mixing of oil and coolant. When I purchased the truck it was completly stock and wasn't abused.

Your thoughts?... Thanks

Yep, crankcase blowby comes out a tube on the driver's side of the engine down by the oil pan. Normally not much, mine leaves a few drops on the garage floor every night, and the bottom of the transmission is pretty grimy from going down the road. I think I used about a half quart in the last 2,000 miles.

My 93 has less than 200,000 miles, and uses less then a pint between service times, around 6,000 to 7,000 miles.

Mine gets about 19 MPG of diesel oil. Does that count?

I guess it all depends on the engine. Mine has allways used 2 quarts between changes.

Yyyyyep. And just because you didn't add any doesn't mean it wasn't low!

But I'll assume everyone here is checking their oil level on a regular basis.

Mine has 182k on it and has used about 2qts per OCI. No blowby but the RMS has leaked since I got it. It recently has gone up to about 1qt. per 150 miles...RMS is shot...GRRR so the CTD gets parked till after the holdays.
