Oil reports .. Input please

Here's some of my reports:

The first ( on right side) was Rotella T 15w-40
The next one left was Chevron Delo 400
The most recent (left side) was Mobil DelVac 1300

It seems my lead and tin (bearings) have gone up, and I have plenty of soot in the oil. Silicone levels are great, stock Mopar filter.

Anyone see anything nasty here?

Nothing nasty... the lead and tin aren't that bad at all. If you are concerned you can try bypass oil filtration. Or synthetic oil. Or both. I know many will scream that synthetics are a waste of money. I, however, feel that especially in colder climates they are worth the $. Summer time and I run conventional. I have tried MANY different oils in my truck and they all gave me good analysis results. The Cummins is pretty easy on oil.

I went to synthetic this winter so I could run a 5w oil. I can't wait to see the analysis.

The variations in lead you see are normal, and your wear metals all look good (Iron is even trending down slightly). Every engine oil sample I've ever seen has some lead detectable. 4-6 ppm is really as good as you can really expect.

I wouldn't worry at all about a difference of 1-2ppm of any of the wear metals. The lab can produce differences like that just in thier day to day operation (different lab tech, machine calibration etc.) You could probably send in the exact same sample, and not get the exact same results, especially when your talking 1-2 ppm.

One thing I will comment on however, is why are you changing brands so much? Experts I have talked to say that differences in additive packages can work against each other, and you should stick with one brand of oil.

Looks good... Blackstone must use a different SOOT test than OAI as mine is green at 2.6%. (OAI is what the local Cummins shop reccommended to use), and I was told to restest in 7000 miles (which will be 21K on the oil).

I was running Rotella until I learned it was one of the worst oils on the planet, Then I ran Delo until they quit producing it and went to Delo LE. I found the DelVac on sale for $6.50 a gallon and bought 15 gallons, but I'll use that in my ATV's now that I see DelVac isn't so great.

I need to find a Valvoline Blue supplier around here....

if this will be the 1 st analysis on this oil since you changed over. You may want to wait till the next change to get a true analysis ( on the new oil) as some of the old oil (dino or what ever) could still be in the oil system

What makes you think the Delvac is no good? Dang, it would take a ton of quad riding to use that much oil in my quad!!!

Delvac 15w-40 is great oil. Even the CJ is showing good reports.

Thanks guys, I'll check out bobstheoilguy...

I have the report from TDR showing a blind test on oils done at a lab. DelVac rated satisfactory, well below Pennzoil Long Life, John Deere Plus-50, and on even par with WalMart Super Tech.

I don't have a recent test with CJ oils, and if someone has a blind comparison test of the newer CJ's I hope they post it.

You should be able to find VOA'S for those oils on that site. Your UOA'S will depend on your driving habits & your engine
