Oil pressure at idle?

I was just drivin home and when I got to a stop sign I noticed the oil pressure droped almost to the green bar on the left side of the 40 on the facotry guage. I realize these factory guages arent that great but I havent noticed it drop like that before. Crusin it is just a shade over the 40 mark.

I checked my oil a few days ago, maybe 60 miles ago and it was about 1/4 inch below full so I didnt worry about it.

I was lookin under my truck today seein what needs to be done to drop the trans for the clutch swap and no oil on or around the turbo but between the bell housing and the motor I could see a little oil, wasnt on the bell houseing but I could see it up in there about level with the top of the crank case.

My blowby tube was pretty oily too.

So what is your oil pressure at idle?
What about crusin?

Any thoughts?

Mine has dropped to 40 before when at operating temp. Doesn't happen too much. Usually happens when I'm driving around town. I think it's because there's not enough airflow over the oil cooler.

Warm idle I have 20psi on my autometer guage. Cruising cold I see up to 75psi, warm 60-65psi. Around town, in city driving usually 50psi is the norm. Hope this helps.

That sounds about the same as mine.

The factory gauge is not much more than an idiot light...oil pressure on the motor is a switch at 7psi....the gauge is a computer estimation based on RPM and oil temperautre.

if you want to know what the real oil pressure is...you MUST install a 'real' gauge.

Mine...at idle, 18-20 psi; >1000rpm >55psi. All at hot temps.

Thanks guys I feel better now. I know the factory guage is junk but it still got me thinking.

It LOOKS like idle at warm is about 20 and crusin is about 50 but like I said I know the guage is not accurate.

Thanks again to all that posted

The factory guage isn't accurate at all. It's an insult to those of us with half a brain. Under 40 on factory guage is above 50 on my "real" guage. It's so far off it's ridiculous. Had to be a bean-counter thing, cause I can't see an engineer specifying a "fake" guage for us, even if they thought we were "dumb folks"...
