oil flushing
oil flushing
ok - simple question - please don't
me!
anyone do a oil flush "purge" of old junk/varnish/blow by/etc when they change to ones oil of choice?? ie: after 15 - 30,000 miles and you finally decide to make the change to something syn or better then stock.. I mean put in a pint of engine cleaner.. (see end before yelling at me)
I know - the old cars and trucks back when and you had 100,000 miles and did the clean the engine out "thing" and now the bearings sould like they are coming after you...
ps: the only reason is a race car driver actually is trying to get me to do this before I change to Schaeffers 7000/9000 diesel oil.. and yes he has a drag car

Run a purge with Schaffer's Neutra 131 for 500-1000 miles before you drop your old oil to dissolve deposits and clean everything out SAFELY. Run at 1 oz per QT of oil (12 oz for 5.9).
I have yet to do it on my Dodge but I have ran Neutra purges on my generator, lawnmowers, 4-wheeler, and 1 tractor, and it is amazing how it will take your nice amber oil and a few hours worth of use later it drain black as coal with all the junk it cleaned up. I am planning on doing it on my next oil change on both the Dodge and our TDI Jetta. It is an ester cleaning product in an oil base, not a harsh, dry solvent that will simply boil off in a matter of minutes.

I just changed my 48RE with Valvoline ATF+4 from Napa for 3.99 ea. I am too afraid of the 48RE puking out on me before 70K to go with a nonapproved ATF, even if I do belive it to be a better product. Now the differentials is another matter, I am putting Schaeffer's #167 in and leaving them sealed for a good long while. This 15K change business on diffs is, for lack of a more PC term, "retarded". I don't have the whiny rear end, etc that might necessitate changing them often to try and find something to make them happy. Mine even likes Valvoline Synpower.
