Oil Change Prices at Your Dealer?

Heyas all, I went in to feed my truck yet another radio under warranty.. (5th one now). I was going to have them change the oil, since they normally charge 79.99 for my Cummins.

The call says oil change is now 131.99. The price of oil went up. I asked by how much and I got a blank stare...

What's your price for oil changes? I do it at the dealer, because the price was decent and they recorded it in my file for warranty purposes. It's probably a little higher in Alaska here. But almost double??

I do my own and its under $100 bucks, thats synthetic oil 3 gallons, oil filter $8 bucks and fuel filter also $10 bucks, rotella T6 at walmart when on sale right around $20 bucks a gallon, baldwin fuel and oil filter bought at Peterbuilt trucks, real good quality stuff, the dealer up here charges around $150 and as far as I am concerned not as good stuff. just my opinion.

In August we were in Couer d lene and Hayden, Idaho area. Tom Addis on US 95 a Dodge dealer was doing Dodge Cummins oil changes for $39.99 during the month of August.

Do my own...(after buying fleetgaurd filters and Rotella in bulk I figure it's costing me about $50 a change).
I too WAS paying to get mine done until I realized everyone from "Mom and Pop" joints to the dealers were wanting better than $100.
Not to mention, my wife was asking why I had all these tools in the garage if I were paying someone to do a simple oil change...talk about a "blank stare"!
Yeah, she was pretty much pulling my man card out and stomping on it...HA!

3 gallons of Delo at O'Reily or Walmart= $37 (on sale)
Mopar oil filter at either of above locations= $13
Total= $50
Takes about 15-20 minutes. Easiest oil change I've ever done, wouldn't pay anyone else to do it.

Did mine yesterday morning to the tune of $12!!!! I have about 30 gallons of CAT DEO 15-40 left and all the oil change cost me was a new Fleetguard filter.

Honestly though, there is no way an oil change on these trucks should cost more than $50. Heck, I can change the oil in my dads Mack for under $200 and that's 15 gallons of oil and 3 filters.

In my opinion changing your own oil in one of these trucks is the only way to go. I can change mine for about 50 buck and it takes about 10 minutes in the driveway. Honestly it would take me longer just to drive to the dealership than it does for me to change it on my own.

Buying filters in bulk and buying oil on sale greatly reduces cost. Even with an oil analysis done at each change, it's still more economical than taking the truck in to the dealer.

I had my truck at the dealer a few months ago for a tranny service and they were offering a coupon for four oil and filter changes for $170.00. I bought one on the spot.

$64.95 at dealer with coupon in mail. At 65 years old it's easer for me, and how much trouble is it to dispose of the old oil?

Most auto parts stores like autozone and others will let you dispose of your used oil for free or atleast around here they do. Also a lot of people are beginning to use the used oil furnaces in their shops and such, so many others are willing to take it off your hands. Personally I use it to start burning a brush pile.

On the 4x4s, a 5 gallon bucket fits perfectly under the oilpan. Just put the lid on the bucket and carry it back to the place you bought the oil (or the recycling center at the county dump in my case).

Some people even filter it and run it through their fuel tank one gallon at a time.
