I drain straight into the empty (3) one gallon jugs I used the prior change. I take the oil to my local autozone or oreilly's and dump it for free. They also let me leave my jugs. They have started requiring that you sign in to dump oils. I'm sure that was because people started abusing the privilege. The jugs from the new oil I just put in become the next draining jugs. To first start this cycle to get the empty jugs I emptied into a plastic lined 3gal wash bucket. Uhm, it was real close
This is how I go about doing my own oil changes. I buy my oil and filters in bulk, and do the oil change myself. Savings from that allow me to purchase better quality oil and filters. Only problem was that it took me about 90,000 miles before I switched out the drain plug for a drain valve!
What has being 65yo got to do with oil changing? I'm 65yo an do all my own maintenance on the beast......
I also do search and rescue for fun.. gotta keep active. Getting old is NOT for sissies!
cost of oil change
I used to do my own oil but being 66 and can afford to pay I elect to hire it done. I have a neigborhood shop that charges $66 and $83 if the air filter needs it. They use the same Delo 15-40 I've always used.
I have 2-3 free oil changes left out of 14 I got when I purchased my truck. I just go in every 6 months regardless of mileage because I'll very rarely exceed 10K in a 6 month span. Anyways, once these are gone I'll do my own. The wife's vehicle has them done at wheel works since she has free rotations there and I hate changing oil on low vehicles (Pacifica).
In my opinion changing your own oil in one of these trucks is the only way to go. I can change mine for about 50 buck and it takes about 10 minutes in the driveway. Honestly it would take me longer just to drive to the dealership than it does for me to change it on my own.
I'd be glad to pay someone $50-60 to do my oil change IF they came to my house to do it, but that's not realistic. Plus fuel filter, air filter, grease the rod ends and front shaft, etc. The dealer, or any other place (unless you have one of those super coupons which I never get 'cuz my truck has never seen the inside of a car dealer since I bought it) will charge crazy money to change all that.
In less than an hour I can do a full service in my garage for about $50 including all the filters. (Filters in bulk from fleetfilter.com or Napa during their 50% off filter sales and $10/gal oil from the last Oreilly's sale, bought about 40gal.)
Would take 3x as long and 3x as much $ to take it in.
I'd worry about two things if someone else was changing my oil: 1. Did they put the right oil in? I was at a Jiffy Lube for a state safety inspection and saw them putting regular old 5w-30 in somebody's Dodge diesel. I said something to the manager and he said "that's what we use"
I waited for the owner to come back and told her, she looked at me like I was from another planet. 2. Did they remember to fill the pre-fill the filter with oil? It's kind of a pain, but necessary. I can see those guys forgetting/skipping that step too.

$39.99 Dick's Country Dodge in Hillsboro Oregon. After you buy the rig from them they invite you to a "maintenance" class to qualify for the price for the life of your vehicle. They also include any other Mopar products you may own. My wife had a Jeep Liberty she bought somewhere else and it was $9.99 for an oil change. We moved to SoCal now so I will be doing it myself. No way would I pay over a $100.00 for an oil change.
$44.95 to $49.95 depending on which coupons my dealer sends me. It's not worth a $100 but having them do it is sure worth $50. You can see their bulk Rotella barrels in the shop and I check their work when they're done. That's cheaper than I can do it myself.
