Oil Change Intervals

Can anyone make sense of your maintence schedule at the back of the owners manual. Is it 3500 or 7500???

Re:Oil Change Intervals

I have the same question. The book is a bit confusing. I know that I do not fall under the 15,000 mile interval. I am just planning on changing mine around 3,000 for the first few changes then make the move to 5,000.

Hey guys the milage for changing your oil is 7500. The book is confusing but it does say 7500 miles oil and filter.

Re:Oil Change Intervals

The book is rather clear to some. If you have a Cali emissions (ie 235 hp) then your oil change interval is 3750 anything other than that is 7500, unless you are one of those that doesn't use your CTD for what it was made for and only drive it to and from work and baby the hell out of it ;D ;D ;D

The question has been answered already, but going by Schedule B it's 7,500 miles....unless you've got the California engine...then it's 3,750 miles. Read the footnotes and it's pretty clear.

Try looking at the Maintenance Log instead of the little chart in the back of the manual. It's a bit more clear.

Re:Oil Change Intervals

I thought it was 7500, but I have had two different dealerships both tell me that it had to be changed every 3750. I was half tempted to tell them that I am pushing more like 4000 per month, It gets pretty expensive changing every 3750. Thanks for the input
Of course they'll say that....especially if you're taking it to them for the oil changes. More $$$. : Just show them the Schedule B Maintenance Log and point out the "fine print".

Re:Oil Change Intervals

I am the type that has always changed the oil a little sooner than the recommended intervals. On this truck I did the first change at 2000 miles, the second change at 5000 miles and will now change it every 5000 miles there after.

Re:Oil Change Intervals

I'm sitting at roughly 5,500 miles and still haven't had my first oil change. I have no intentions of changing it before it hits 7,500. Does that make me a rebel? ;D

Re:Oil Change Intervals

Yeah...you'd think that wouldn't be a big deal, but it seems that people are stuck on changing their oil more frequently than what the manual calls for. [undecided] Of course...I don't care if they do or not...but I don't like paying to change my oil if I don't have to. ;D

Re:Oil Change Intervals

On my gassers for too many years to remember I have always disregarded the oil change schedules and just changed the oil when it got dirty. Never had an engine failure except once and that was on a diesel. (crankshaft broke)
Now on this truck I am sorta following the same idea but time will tell if I still do that because I know that diesels tend to dirty the oil sooner. With 3 gallon oil (expensive oil) changes I just may be forced to go by the book this time.
