Question Oil Change ????

I just did a oil change on my 07 5.9. I replaced the oil with Valvoline Premium Blue Oil and used a Mobil-1 filter. I read in the manual that these motors use 12qts of fluid. So I went to Kragen and bought 3 gallons of oil which if my math is correct is 12qts. But when I went to check the level after the change I was 1qt low...what gives????

Ya have to let em' sit for awhile - at least 15 minutes if I remember reading the manual right. Takes a while for all the oil to get back down to the pan.

I just did the oil change myself for the first time on my truck. I thought it would be really hard to get the filter off, but thanks to geno's garage and the advise of some folks here, I got a filter wrench on a socket extension and it came off super easy. I just put 3 gallons roughly of delo until the level was right in the middle. If its like the old one I had, if you put too much it comes out the crank case breather tube (think thats what it is called?)

Yep, you have to let the truck SIT for quite a while before you get an accurate reading!!! Even 15 minutes it soo short sometimes..LOLOL FOr the absolute best results, let it sit over night and ck it just before you drive it the first time for the day..
