NV5600 noise

My NV5600 is making a growling noise in 6th and 4th gear only. Are these gears on a common shaft?

The noise just started about 1000 miles ago.

I am driving it in 5th(dead quiet) on the highway now. The nearest real transmission shop is 600 miles away, so I will have to limp it there to get checked out.

When was the last time the fluid was changed, or even checked?

Throwout may be on the way out. Check your fluid.

Mine kinda makes a howling noise in every gear when you lug it kinda like you can hear gears moving but every nv5600 and nv4500 i've been around has done it.

Mine makes a similar noise, but only in the lower gears. The nv5600 is a noisy manual, alot of low rpm rattling, whining occaisionally...

Mine is pretty quiet except for the low rpm gear rattle, but I have 6 quarts of Amsoil MTF in there.

Yeah, I've been due a fluid change, but got to scrounge up the $$$ first. With diesel prices the way they are I can barely afford to fill my truck up full.

You might want to check the fluid level anyway. A quart or two of fluid is alot cheaper than a burned up NV5600 repair.

I run 1 litre over full all the time. I have been using the Mopar synthetic fluid.
