NV5600 to 48RE

Has anyone converted their truck to a auto? I would like to convert mine(04'), but i'm not too sure what would needed to do it right the first time. Any input would be greaty appreciated. I REALLY dont want to sell the truck and buy another one. Theres way too much time and money involved in this one.

Tranny swap

There will be the tranny hardware and then you will have to look into reprograming the ECM as I believe the programs are different due to control of the auto. You may want to look in junk yards for the drive train components you need but are probably difficult to find a totalled truck without driveline component damage.

Nice looking ride. Just curious why change? I suspect a spouse issue here.

Well i've searched about every junk yard in northern IL and found no cummins trucks. I want to switch for many reasons, 1.) My clutch is gone 2.) New hours at work have me leaving right in the heart of ruch hour(1.5hrs sitting in stop and go traffic on my way home) 3.) Sold my 48' trailer 4.) Old age and tired knees. 5.) BURNOUTS

Good reasons!!!!

There is a member here (joe22790) looking to get another truck because his has a 05 with an automatic and he wants a 6 speed. Maybe the two of you should get together and do the tranny swap and keep your trucks.

I did not realize Indiana had mountains like those in some of your pics.

My honest opinion, trade trucks. Would be much easier, and probably not much more costly in the end?

I think it would be too cost prohibitive? At least $5000 but probably waaayyyyy more. Things I could think of off the top of my head, transmission(obviously), both front and rear drivshafts, transmission mounts and cossmembers, a new powertrain control module, A LOT of wiring, Different instrument cluster, of coarse all the external undertruck shift controls, probably a steering column for the different shifter, and then you'd have to get somebody to make it all talk to each other, if that is possible? I'd just get an 06'. The looks will grow on you. In 03' everybody hated the way they looked, and in 94' everybody hated the way they look. There are some improvements to the 06' that seem real obvious to me once you drive one. And even if you did convert your other truck it may be tough to get rid of it down the road because most people wouldn't want something that had had that kind of modifications done.

I am estimating about 12,000 with a full billit trans, upgraded valve body, billit flex.... I have a really good driveshaft guy who could shorten/extend them in one day. Shifter would be on the floor, I dont need a fancy gauge to show me what gear i'm in. Already have a source for new starter, and trans mounts. All i need is electronics from ats to make everything communicate. However every conversion has loops and i'm just wondering if anyone has done this so that they could maybe shed some insight.

Should be easy

Step one: Sell truck with 6speed manual.
Step two: Buy truck with 48re.

I would like to have an auto as well. I had all kinds of problems with the 47RE in the ol' 2000 3/4 ton which is why I went with the 6 speed in the 2004. Now that I see that all the problems seem to have been cured with the 48RE I wish I would have went with one, specially after driving a 2007 MC duallie in OKC today. But with the sticker at 56 large, I may just stick with my nearly paid off '04...

Listen to what LUkE is telling you. Hes right . Your truck will just be jurryrigged when you get done and nothing will work smooth like you think.
Flore shift auto in a late model dodge cummins. That right there will cut your truck value 6-8k. Get a new 06 48re. you'll love it. Lots of people want the stick shifts for towing, there real pullers .
