Number 6 cylinder gone?

2005 ram 2500 with 115xxx miles, on initial start up truck blows white smoke, random ticking that starts and stops, rough idle, number 6 cylinder cold on exhaust side, valve cover taken off and all valves are working, unplugged number 6 injector and there was no difference, unplugged number 5 injector and it skipped more. we're thinking next option is compression test. any thoughts out there would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Best case, just the number six injector.
Worst case, melted piston, injector.

Need to check the oil for fuel, may not smell like it much. Having it tested is the only sure fire way to know.

As you said, compression test is the next step.

Any warning signs that this was coming? Or did it just blow up?

Check for codes, no codes, you have a broken ring on #6.

Good thing it was not a melted piston!

Much easier and cheaper fix to do rings.

hmm another 05' with a broken ring....makes me nervous how many ring issues i've heard about...almost to the point of just wanting to put new rings in mine as preventative maintenance!
