nuber 6 injector

nuber 6 injector

2005 ram 2500 215xxx miles, had some blow by through the blow by tube and rough idle with white smoke with oder of fuel heavy with it. took the number six injector out and in the process one of the injector bolts was finger tight, could this be my problem? any feedback would be great!

The injector is held down by two separate bolts, but both work together to clamp the injector down to the head. Once you loosen one bolt, the other is automatically loose. When installing the injector, you pop in the injector, install the fuel feed tube and torque down, then start the threads on the two injector hold down bolts. Once the thread is started, you tighten the bolts alternating from one to the other by only going 1/4 turn at a time on each. This allows both bolts to tighten down evenly. Otherwise, if you tighten one bolt all the way down, then the other, the clamp on the injector will not be even. Think of it more like a see-saw.

Yes that could very well be your problem. Id re-tighten everything and check again. Worse case scenario you'll be back where you are now.
