Thanks for all the replies guys. I've got it in the shop now and they're lookin the truck over. It's not only in the shop because of this problem, there also a sound and vibration in the rearend. I checked the cables and terminals when it happed the first time and they were clean as can be. I'm not disouraged at all about this truck it's just the fact that I bought it 3 weeks ago lol. And I was headin to Bristol VA Hodge, where you from in Ole VA

Most of the time a smoking passenger side battery is due to a bad connection or cable that runs from the Passenger side battery + to the Drivers side battery + connection. It only has to be a little loose. The drivers side battery is where the ECM senses the voltage, if it is low it will crank up the alternator some more and that is when you get the smoking hot battery. Or it could be a bad drivers side battery.

I agree with you, it is true most of the time. I have been lucky with all the used vehicle I have bought over the years - but I did have one that killed me with problems. Wheel bearings, transfer case, rear, tranny, it goes on and on. I think I replaced most of the truck when by the time I finally sold it.

Since I have kept my last 2 trucks for a minimum of 7 years, I decided to splurge and buy my '05 new. So far it has been the best truck I have ever owned. I enjoy driving it today as much as I did when it was new.

As far as the issues with the battery, I would just make sure to test everything in the charging system. Make sure there is no "backyard" wiring that could be causing the problem.
