Searchin 4 the KDP an' found nothin'
I've been worried about the KDP so I called Al @ Piers re: the jig that he has but he told me that they do it there for $225 canadian, (which I dont have) so I pulled everything off and low and behold there was no pin!!!!! I bought my 95 a year and a half ago and don't know its history.
Here is my question. All the pictures I've seen of where the pin is set in the casting it seems to be recessed right next to the mounting bolt. (so you can put the modified fender washer to hold it in place) The hole where the KPD was(on mine) is raised making that particular modification much more difficult.(if the pin was still there) Do you think that this gear housing is not stock and the damage had been done and fixed by the previous owner/ D C under warranty?
What also is a bit wierd is that I had a #6 cam plate and turbo upgrade at a cummins dealer and when he took the engine serial # off the gear housing he was not familiar with that #.
Could that be an indication of a housing off another engine?
I looked around the gear case to see if I could find the pin, stuck a magnet around couldn't find anything.
someone may have replaced the housing because the pin fell out and damaged it already....or the pin just fell out and didnt cause any damage....the pin does not need to be in, its only for alinement when installing a rear gear housing to the block, does it look like theres a pin in it now or is the hole empty

The bolts hold things together, the pins are for location of the case to block. Without the pins the case can move and ruin the seal as well as proper gear mesh for the injection pump as well as the power steering/vacuum pump cannot be maintained by bolts alone. Yes, the pins are for assembly but they MUST remain in place.

Do searches for "KDP" photos here and on that other site to ease you worry, if the case is different and the pin is fine remove mounting bolts and use brake cleaner before loctiting them back in. Use 242 (blue) Loctite. Mines a '95 and the pin was fine with 155,000 miles so I tabbed it, Loctited the bolts put a new seal in and now I have over 180,000 on it with no worry.

Michael
